Immutable Source Anchoring and Content-Addressed Text Extracts
Hosted note-taking platforms discard underlying cryptographic provenance when capturing reading highlights and marginalia. By generating SHA-256 content hashes across normalized text runs and anchoring block offsets directly in frontmatter, extracted passages remain verifiable even if upstream URIs mutate.
Anchoring Invariants
- Content-Addressed Signatures: Every excerpt calculates an immutable cryptographic hash over its normalized body text.
- Frontmatter Offset Mapping: Exact line ranges and character offsets serialize into structured YAML for programmatic validation.
- Upstream Resilience: Local extracts retain full context and readability when original web sources vanish behind paywalls or link rot.
Cryptographic source anchoring protects personal research from the instability of external web publishing.
