Proprietary page layout tools store typesetting choices in binary or obfuscated XML archives (such as Adobe InDesign IDML or Scribus SLA files). When software subscriptions lapse or software versions change, document layouts become unreadable. Press includes extraction utilities that unpack proprietary packages into clean CommonMark prose and parametric YAML print manifests.

IDML XML Deconstruction

InDesign IDML packages are standard ZIP archives containing complex XML trees. The Press liberation parser extracts styles, spreads, and text frames, isolating pure semantic content from layout geometry:

The extracted prose is written to standard Markdown notes, while page dimensions and column gutters are saved to print_spec.yaml.
