Content-Addressed Vector Storage CAS for Printable SVG PDF Artifacts
High-resolution technical diagrams, typography proofs, and press-ready vector assets bloat git repositories when stored naively. Binary revisions overwrite entire vector trees, creating repository gigabyte creep. The Bosun Press architecture manages printable SVG and PDF plates through a Content-Addressed Storage (CAS) mechanism backed by SHA-256 hashes.
The Immutable Vector Manifest
Each printable artifact is hashed post-compilation and stored by its cryptographic digest:
{
"artifact": "circuit_topology_plate_01.svg",
"sha256": "8f3b20c6a51d9e2b10478df8590c37b7964b4198305c48b049d5c345b1285091",
"media_type": "image/svg+xml",
"color_profile": "FOGRA39",
"vector_nodes": 1420,
"size_bytes": 184512
}The document frontmatter references only the hash pointer, guaranteeing that historical print editions can be reproduced byte-for-byte ten years later.
Content-Addressed De-Duplication
Print pipelines compile thousands of iterative vector proofs. Storing them under a hashed CAS prevents duplicate plates across release variants:
# Ingest compiled vector asset into local press CAS
$ press-cli cas put output/schematic.svg --profile ISOcoated_v2
Stored: sha256:4b27a810f... (142 KiB, 0 duplicates)The underlying CAS isolates cold binary payloads from Markdown text trees, maintaining sub-second git operations on local workstations.
