Cryptographic Invoice and Receipt Matching Using SHA-256 CAS

Cryptographic Invoice and Receipt Matching Using SHA-256 CAS: Dual-trace Phosphor P1 high-persistence green and P4 paper white vector CRT macro showing cryptographic receipt matching trees, SHA-256 CAS content hashes, and invoice verification lattices

During financial audits, an accounting entry is only as credible as the underlying proof document. Scattering PDF receipts across email folders or unindexed desktop downloads creates audit vulnerability. Quartermaster implements content-addressed receipt archiving, pairing every expense posting with a cryptographic hash pointer to an immutable file store.

The Receipt Binding Metadata

When an invoice arrives, it is renamed to its SHA-256 digest and placed in the vault’s cold storage media folder:

2026-09-17 * "DigiKey Electronics" "Laboratory Passives"
  document: "sha256:7a4e891c3d0b2f5619e8a04b127492c10948572019485b01c38e712a4b8910c2"
  Expenses:Hardware:LabComponents       $84.50 USD
  Liabilities:CreditCard:Visa          -$84.50 USD

The file is stored physically at vault/08 Evidence/receipts/2026/09/7a4e891c3d0b.pdf.

Automated Integrity Verification

A local validation script scans the ledger to verify that every attached receipt exists and matches its recorded checksum:

# Verify cryptographic attachment integrity
$ quartermaster audit --verify-documents
Audited: 412 document links
Status: 412 verified, 0 missing, 0 hash mismatches

If an invoice file is modified or corrupted by storage media degradation, the audit command flags the discrepancy immediately.
