Dynamic Agenda Interval Transclusion via Marlinspike CST
Static daily notes require users to duplicate recurring schedules or hardcode agenda intervals directly into raw markdown files. When meeting schedules drift, duplicated text becomes desynchronized. The Bosun Logbook solves this through the Marlinspike Concrete Syntax Tree (CST) engine, which transcludes active calendar intervals dynamically without altering the underlying disk storage.
Dynamic Transclusion Tokens
The Logbook parser recognizes explicit agenda query directives demarcated by fenced transclusion fences:
```agenda:transclude
range: 2026-09-17T08:00:00Z..2026-09-17T18:00:00Z
sources:
- caldav:primary
- local:schedules/on-call.ics
filter: status != cancelled
During rendering in the terminal viewer or web front-end, Marlinspike evaluates the range query against the local CalDAV cache, synthesizes the interval nodes, and projects them into the rendered document pipeline.
## Concrete Syntax Tree Node Splicing
Marlinspike preserves byte-exact source spans using a Concrete Syntax Tree. Transcluded agenda items exist only as virtual branch projections within the AST; they never mutate the original byte offsets of surrounding journal prose:
```rust
pub struct AgendaBlockNode {
pub span: TextSpan,
pub query_range: (DateTime<Utc>, DateTime<Utc>),
pub cached_entries: Vec<CalendarEvent>,
}
impl AgendaBlockNode {
pub fn render_virtual_projection(&self, sink: &mut String) {
for event in &self.cached_entries {
sink.push_str(&format!(
"- [{}] {} ({})
",
event.start.format("%H:%M"),
event.summary,
event.location.as_deref().unwrap_or("unassigned")
));
}
}
}
The underlying disk file retains only the raw transclusion query block. If an upstream event shifts by thirty minutes on a remote server, the next local render automatically updates the displayed agenda without triggering a filesystem write or git diff.
