MOC - The Plain-Text Longevity Standard

● Evergreen

The engineering discipline of building software systems where knowledge persistence is completely decoupled from application execution runtimes. Storing notes in standard UTF-8 CommonMark with typed YAML frontmatter guarantees that personal records outlive proprietary companies, license servers, and abandoned cloud databases.

Mechanical Invariants

  • Zero Binary Encapsulation: Notes exist as human-readable, line-oriented text files directly inspectable by standard POSIX utilities (grep, awk, find).
  • Disposable Auxiliary Projections: SQLite caches, search indices, and relational graphs stored in .bosun/ carry zero conflict authority. Deleting them results in zero data loss; the runtime reconstructs state directly from disk.
  • Lossless AST Round-Tripping: Concrete syntax trees preserve whitespace, formatting trivia, and frontmatter comments during parsing and re-serialization.
